Ralph Lauren's Spectacular Car Collection

More Than A Fashion Icon

Iconic designer Ralph Lauren is known around the world for his good taste. But his passion for good design doesn’t stop with clothes—he also sees beauty in well-made cars. His collection is known worldwide, but it’s hard to know the true extent of it. Luckily, we’ve got some of the details about Lauren’s incredible fleet.

A Unique Bugatti

This car is called the “crown jewel” of his collection. It’s a 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, widely thought to be one of the most stunning machines ever made. And, its price reflects that. Its presence in his collection only adds to its value.

The car is also a rarity. There were only four of these machines made, three of which still exist today. But the fourth, La Voiture Noire? It disappeared during WWII, never to be seen again.

A Multitude Of Ferrari 250s

Ferraris are among Lauren’s favorite vehicles—he has many in his collection, including several Ferrari race cars. His collection ranges from the years 1954 to 2015. He even has the 1962 Ferrari 250 Gran Turismo Omologato, a race car one could even call beautiful.

He also has one of the fastest Ferraris in existence, the 1991 Ferrari F40, which has a top speed of 201 mph. With so many stunning Ferraris, Lauren must have a difficult time picking his favorite!

Racing McLaren F1

This automobile was one of the fastest cars for 24 years, setting it up as a legend in Lauren’s collection. He owns not one, but three McLaren F1s. Only seven have been made, and Lauren’s might be the only 1996 model ever made!

Not only that, but he has a regular F1 model and the Le Mans tribute model. The Le Mans model has a huge wing along the back of the vehicle, which is a pretty cool flair, even for a vehicle like the McLaren F1.

A Rare Mercedes-Benz

To add to the rarities in his collection, Lauren has a 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK “Count Trossi”. It was specially commissioned by an Italian automaker and driver of the same name—Count Trossi, not Mercedes-Benz

A Rare Mercedes-Benz

To add to the unique appearance of the “Count Trossi”, which has oddly shaped but aerodynamic tear-drop shapes incorporated into its design, the automobile has an intense engine—a supercharged 7.1L inline-six. Talk about power!

A Flurry Of Ferrari

The Ferrari 375 Plus is considered to be another rare addition to the designer’s collection. A different vehicle of the same make was sold for $18.3 million in 2014, so we can only guess how expensive Lauren’s is.

The model is vintage and won major races like the Carrera Panamericana, 24 Hours Of Le Mans, and the Agadir GP. Its success was all thanks to its 325-horsepower Lampredi V12 engine.

The Unique Porsche Spyder

The German-made 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder was only in production for three years, during which only 90 were made. And it didn’t just look beautiful—it dominated the race track.

The car participated in numerous races and even took some of the top spots. It even took first place at the Nurburgring Eifel Race in 1953, the first race the car ever participated in!

The Porsche Spyder—Modern Edition

The Porsche 918 Spyder is a modern marvel—and Lauren owns two of them. They’re a plug-in hypercar powered by a 599-horsepower 4.6L V8 engine that works alongside two electric motors that add another 282 horsepower on top of it.

This special vehicle takes just 2.5 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph. And as if it weren’t impressive enough, the hypercar can reach over 217 mph. Lauren’s taste is on a whole other level.

Spyder Of A Different Breed

The 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is also a Spyder, a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Spyder. This vehicle houses a V12 engine and was intended to be raced on the road. At the time, it was one of the most aerodynamic automobiles on the track.

Spyder Of A Different Breed

This model is definitely rare, and only 34 were made. The likelihood of seeing one of these out on the road is incredibly low. When a prototype chassis was auctioned in 2011, it sold for $16 million

Faster Than A Jaguar

Lauren’s collection includes a 1955 Jaguar XKD, in production for three years in the mid-1950s. Interestingly, it was a factory-made race car, and it made its mark on the racing community in 1957, all thanks to its top-tier engine.

Faster Than A Jaguar

Its engine is a 3,442-cc DOHC inline-six with three Weber 45 DCO3 carburetors and a four-speed manual transmission. That’s a lot of kick for such a compact vehicle! To this day, it’s an impressive marvel of engineering.

The Jaguar Has A Friend

For a more drivable fancy vehicle, Lauren has the Jaguar XKSS in his collection. By drivable, I mean the “street version” of the Jaguar D-Type race car. This model was intended to be used in a more common context, but catastrophe halted its production.

The Jaguar Has A Friend

A fire burned down the factory and destroyed much of the inventory. In the end, only 16 of these Jags were finished. In 2016, they revived the model and made nine replicas. This makes the XKSS quite a rare acquisition.

McLaren P1 Steps Into The Present

While most of Lauren’s collection leans into the vintage vibes, this car is a modern plug-in hybrid supercar. The first sighting of it was in 2012 at the Paris Motor Show. When the first models were finally available, each of the 375 vehicles were sold within a month.

Surprisingly, Lauren didn’t mean for this car to sit idly in his garage. No, he said this machine was “to drive and not collect”. It can go from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds and maxes out at 217 mph!

The Legendary Lamborghini

Adding to Lauren’s more modern vehicles, he owns the “ultra-rare” Lamborghini Reventón. The Reventón is a mid-engine supercar, and the creators drew inspiration from fighter jets.

The Legendary Lamborghini

Its engine is equally impressive as its aesthetic. The Reventón has a 6.5L V12 engine, matching the Murciélago LP640. This car reached a max speed of 221 mph, and only 20 were manufactured. Lauren called it the “architecture of a modern master”.

The Roar Of The Jaguar

This stunning Jaguar XK120 has the classic look of a vintage Alloy Roadster. The “120” refers to the vehicle's top speed, which was quite an achievement in its time. It was even the fastest car in production for a while.

The first few XK120s featured individual pieces made using a special aluminum body, which created a lightweight machine. After that, the manufacturers switched to steel. Now, the aluminum alloy versions are worth more than their steel contemporaries.

The Ferrari Of All Ferraris

Topping off Lauren’s collection of Ferrari’s is the LaFerrari. They made it to dominate the hypercar world, but it has another surprising feature. It has the HY-KERS system, pulling from electric and gasoline motors.

Lauren’s car is even more special, though. Apparently, the hybrid engine wasn’t enough for him, nor was the limited production. Lauren’s version of the model has a shiny black paint job, setting it apart even more.

This Mercedes-Benz Is An Inspiration

One of Lauren’s coolest additions to his collection is a stunning machine, with doors that lift from the roof for added uniqueness. It's the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. And Lauren got more than just a car with this one.

This Mercedes-Benz Is An Inspiration

The leather interior of this machine inspired him—Lauren drew from the vehicle's aesthetic when designing his home line. A well-designed automobile and home is truly a unique combination.

A Classic Aston

Lauren fills out the big names in his collection with the Aston Martin DB5 Convertible. This two-seater is “synonymous with the ultimate in style and desirability”. And Lauren isn’t the only one who is a fan of the car.

Alongside Ralph Lauren, Sir Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Elle McPherson contribute to keeping the vehicle at the height of popularity. The Aston Martin is a true indicator of taste.

Best Of Bentley

Ralph Lauren rounds out the range of eras in his collection with the Bentley 4 ½ Litre Blower. This series of automobiles was produced between 1927 and 1931, with a total of 720 manufactured during those years.

The 4 ½ Litre participated in several races, including the 24 Hours Of Le Mans. This race decided its fate. Even though it crashed and couldn’t finish the race, its performance was good enough for Bentley to send the first model into production.

The Alpha Status Of The Romeo

The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 is valued at $12 million. The model raced both grand prix and endurance races, and earned the nickname “Monza”. The model even won the Lorraine Grand Prix in 1932 with WWII hero Jean-Pierre Wimille at the wheel.

It joined Lauren’s collection in 1988. This is where the mysteries about Lauren’s collection come in. There was a similar Romeo sold after he acquired it, but it isn’t known whether it was the very same machine or not.

A Modern Take On The Bugatti

Topping off Lauren’s collection of supercars, racecars, and overall wildly impressive vehicles is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport. He has even been spotted driving the vehicle—going the speed limit, of course.

Ralph Lauren’s Expensive Desires

Ralph Lauren has been collecting cars since the 1970s when he purchased a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5 Convertible. In the decades since then, he’s acquired enough vehicles that the collection is worth over $600 million. Now that’s expensive taste.
